This summer, Lone Star College Cy-Fair plans to help get your small business off to a great start and on its way to becoming a big success!  

Lone Star College will hold free, weekly business success seminars on Tuesdays in June and July (no classes to be held July 6) from 7:45 a.m. to 8:45 a.m. in the Barker Cypress Campus Library, room 215, located at 9191 Barker Cypress.  Topics will include using Facebook and other social media outlets, Online Marketing, and Search Engine Optimization—all useful marketing topics that today’s modern business can’t grow without.

For more information on classes to be held each Tuesday between June 8 and July 20, including a full schedule of seminar topics, visit LoneStar.edu.  Lone Star College is a great university, serving the Cy-Fair advanced education needs of both adults and college-bound teens, and is an excellent Cy-Fair community asset.  Take time to visit the Lone Star College website and campus; you’ll find something you’ve been waiting to learn! 


 

On June 18, 2010 the 3rd Annual Eric Bassett Memorial Scholarship Golf Tournament and Auction Fundraiser will be held. The $20,000 student college scholarship, awarded each year, is given in honor of Eric Bassett, a Cy-Falls High honor student and top athlete who was tragically killed in 2007.  

Eric’s parents, Ana and Eric Bassett, formed the non-profit behind the scholarship in honor of Eric’s life, achievements, and potential.


Wrap up your spring outings with a visit to the Italian Expo May 21 through 23 at the nearby Houston’s George R. Brown Convention Center!

This year’s Italian Expo is a full weekend of activity highlighting Italian dance, art, fashion, music, cars, and of course - soccer. Over 150 exhibitors will be displaying Everything Italian! at the event.

Want to get up close and personal with a Ferrari? Maybe Italian gifts and leathers get your engines revved? Come out and see the latest Italian luxury clothing, accessories and home furnishing and even plan your dream trip to Italy? It’s all at the Italian Expo!


Actor Dan Aykroyd will be Grand Marshall of the 23rd Annual Houston Orange Show Art Car Parade, on Saturday, May 8. Local Cy Fair artists have created Art Cars just for this event! The Art Car Parade will begin at 1 p.m., is free to the public and will start at the corner of Houston’s Allen Parkway and Taft and ends at Montrose. The best viewing is along Allen Parkway from Montrose to Bagby.

Cars will be made to look like fighter jets, plants, trees, trucks, and more in this famous Houston parade, and the Cy Fair artists have exceptionally prepared their entries for this year’s parade. For example, the Garrett’s from Cy Fair have prepared a moving peacock; Michael Lawrence has created a “Dragon Wagon” from a radio flyer wagon; Daniel Norstrom will present a fusion of Cadillac’s and flowers made from water bottles – none of which are to be missed! Several local Cy Fair charities also have entries.


Towne Lake residents won’t want to miss this important community event. Scheduled for Saturday, May 1, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the great Willowbrook Mall, the Cy-Fair Houston Chamber of Commerce (CFCOC) and Sprint will present the 16th Annual Salute to Law Enforcement.

Since1994, the single largest known law enforcement exhibition has been open to the public and aimed at the families and children of local communities. The event includes officers, equipment, and exhibits from over 100 law enforcement agencies. Safety fingerprinting for children is just one of the important community services that will be provided at the event!


SUMMER DAY CAMPS PLANNED AT LANGHAM CREEK YMCA

Langham Creek YMCA is a great family resource, very close to Town Lake, providing an 11,000 square-foot newly-expanded facility as well as acres of woods for exploring. Beginning April 1, LCYMCA has several camps to consider for your children, from day camps to overnight adventures, all with the 100 year family reputation earned and maintained by YMCAs everywhere. The time to register your children is now, as spaces are limited.

The Day Camp for 5-12 year-olds has age-appropriate activities daily that are broken down for ages 5, ages 8-9, and ages 10-12. Arts and crafts, sports and general play, science, and swimming are just a few of the fun activities your children will experience.


Northwest Assistance Ministries (NAM) has helped neighbors helping neighbors for over 26 years, making the Cypress-Fairbanks area a better place for all residents. With a group of 85 employees and over 2,000 volunteers, this non-profit organization helps people pool their resources to meet area needs reflecting the values of a community that works together to make Northwest Harris County a better place to be.

Friday February 12th NAM will hold a grand re-opening of its Community resale store at 10505 Jones Road (at Fallbrook). The store will be open from 10:00am to 5:00pm for a “Sweetheart of a sale” featuring special promotions throughout the day which include Valentine’s refreshments and a door prize drawing at 4:00pm. For every $5 a customer spends that day they will receive one ticket to enter the drawing to win a Valentine’s gift basket from HEB Vintage Park.


 

The Cy-Fair Home and Garden Show is fast approaching and we are pleased to announce our presence at booth number 411! Be sure to stop by for great info and opportunities regarding our beautiful water-connected community.

The Cy-Fair Home and Garden Show will feature seminars, over 200 vendors, products, great deals, and more from local home and garden experts; it's the perfect event for a Cy-Fair homeowner!


The Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District is full of committed teachers, parents, clubs, and organizations that seek to better the community and their children’s education. The upcoming CFISD Vendor Fair will allow them to preview a variety of fund raising options to further support their goals and missions.

The Cypress Fairbanks ISD Parent/Teacher Organization Presidents Council is hosting its annual Vendor’s Fair on February 23. This event, free and open to the public, will be held at the Berry Center, 8877 Barker Cypress Road) from 9:30am to 1:30pm.

Vendors that have been approved by the district will be present to showcase their products and services available for fundraising. This gives individuals and groups an opportunity to speak directly with vendors, to view their products and start planning for future fund raising. Vendors will be able to assist a variety of groups and organizations such as school clubs, sports associations, scout groups, school staff, day care centers, church groups and many more.


Miss Cy-Fair Houston

2010 marks the premiere year for the Miss Cy-Fair Houston Pageant, and a Towne Lake resident could be crowned the lucky lady! The C-Fair Houston Chamber of Commerce announced this inaugural event as open to female high school students not less than 15 years of age or no more than 19 years of age as of March 27, 2010, the date of he pageant.

Towne Lake ladies are eligible, as contestants must reside in the Cy-Fair Independent School District or have a physical home address within the CFISD boundaries, be home-schooled or enrolled in a public of private school within CFISD boundaries.
