TOWNE LAKE TEXAS – LOCAL NATURE PRESERVE ENCOURAGES ECO-WORKS

Kleb Woods Nature Preserve, a local wildlife preserve and hotspot for birdwatchers, is quickly becoming a popular location for area organizations to perform eco-works.

The Kleb Woods Nature Preserve hosted a two-weekend Eagle Scout project giving the scouts and their dads the opportunity to construct a wooden path, enhancing the preserve, and earning the boys a badge.

The Scouts group was followed by a Rosehill Christian School class planting of a Republic of Texas orange tree near the Kleb Farm House. This special, heritage variety orange was originally developed by early Texans during the Republic years of the early 1840’s and planted in celebration of Texas Independence Day. The Rosehill students also assisted with Japanese Privet control along the walking trail.

On another day, volunteers came to Kleb Woods to separate lumber salvaged from a 110+ year-old smoke house, which will be reused to complete the barn’s exterior siding.

Towne Lake visitors are encouraged to pack a lunch and get back into nature with their family, friends and club members this April, in honor of Earth Month. The park is open daily from 7 a.m. until dusk and docents of the Cypress Historical Society conduct tours for groups of drop-in visitors as well. Cypress Top Park museums are open Tuesdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. For additional information or to schedule a group tour call (281) 496-2177.

Source: Cy-Fair Lifestyle & Homes and Artshound.com

The Cy-Fair Educational Foundation will be holding their 21st Annual B.F. Adams Golf Classic at the BlackHorse Golf Club. The golf classic is one of the largest non-celebrity tournaments held in the Houston Area, and has raised more than $1.3 million towards the foundations efforts since its inception in 1992. The funds raised are used to increase college access for graduates of Cy-Fair ISD by way of scholarships. The foundation’s primary mission is to “promote excellence in teaching by providing classroom innovation program grants” according to their website www.thecfef.org. “The CFEF golf tournament is a fun and rewarding event, knowing that the funds raised are going to further a young person’s college education,” said Jerry Ashmore, member of the CFEF Board. “It is a great opportunity for an individual or business owner to give back to the community, whether it be participating in the tournament or providing a service or auction/raffle item.”

This year’s four-person scramble golf tournament, which is underwritten by Cypress Fairbanks Medical Center Hospital, will begin at 9:30 a.m. with registration immediately followed by the opening of a putting contest and the driving range. Lunch, provided by Willie’s Grill & Icehouse, will start being served at 10 a.m. subsequently with teams on the golf course at 11 a.m. The tournament will conclude at 5 p.m. with a steak dinner, sponsored by Carl’s BBQ, and an awards ceremony. Also sponsoring the event are Linebarger Goggan Blair & Sampson, LLP, Attorneys at Law and Bay Architects who have contributed at the Platinum level.

The foundation, started in 1972, has spent the last 38 years raising more than $3 million in scholarships which have been awarded to more than 850 graduates of Cypress-Fairbanks ISD. And, over $800,000 has been donated to CFISD Instructional Excellence Grants.

Click to download the Golf Registration Form.

Source: www.thecfef.org

Source: www.cfisd.net

Cy-Fair Women's Health

Cypress Fairbanks Women's Imaging Center is offering public information to the Cy-Fair area and Towne Lake community as a preventative measure for the development of breast cancer. The center is pushing for accurate, preventative care that can save residents time and lives.

The importance of regular screenings cannot be overemphasized; the current recommendations from the American Cancer Society are: Women should have yearly mammograms starting at age 40. Women who are high-risk should have yearly mammogram and breast MRI starting at age 30. Self-breast exams should start being performed at age 20.

These recommendations are supported by several credible organizations, including the American College of Radiology and American Society of Breast Surgeons.

Assessing Your Risk Women are at high risk for developing breast cancer if they have a family history of the disease, have had the disease previously, or tested for the BRCA1 or the BRCA2 gene. These women have even more screening options available, including the more detailed breast MRI or ultrasound.

The closest Women's Imaging Center to Towne Lake is located about 2 miles away at 9110 Barker Cypress (Barker Cypress near West Road).

To learn more or to schedule an appointment, call 281-897-3121 or visit CyFairWomensImaging.com
