Cy-Springs Model UN Students to Attend International Conference

During a two-day Houston Area Model UN (HAMUN) Conference Cypress Springs High School Model UN delegates, along with delegates from Jersey Village High School, displayed strong performances and will be advanced to the UNA-USA Model UN Conference in New York City this May.

The Cypress Springs Russian delegation achieved the Secretary General's grand prize, awarding the school a $5,000 trip to New York City with airfare and accommodations provided by the Board of Governors representing HAMUN.

The Cypress Springs Russian delegates represented the National Security Council for Russia and were required to research Russia's position on the occupation of Chechnya. The students were in the same room as representative students for the United States, Georgia, and other countries with vested interests in the Chechnya occupation. All delegates had to reach an agreement and sign a treaty concerning the situation, with the Russian team granting Chechnya independence in exchange for oil rights.

The following Cypress Springs students will be traveling to the UNA-USA Model UN Conference: Quinn Hines, National Security Council; Desiree Berger, National Security Council; Raphael Akinsipe, General Assembly Plenary; Rachel Hillebrand, Security Council; Robert Rayford, International Court of Justice; and Jackie Kingsley, United Nations High Commission for Refugees.

Congratulations to these talented Cypress Springs Model UN students!
