Residents of Town Lake have one more reason to brag on the “good thinks” of their students!
Middle School students at Cy-Fair’s Smith took high honors in the problem solving competition at the Technology Student Association (TSA) National Conference at the Gaylord Texan Resort in Grapevine, Texas, held over the summer.
Students Kyle Thomas and Mike Lynn placed 11th among more than 90 teams who competed in the problem solving portion of the TSA National Conference. Both students had previously qualified at the state level in the problem solving category, which allowed them the opportunity to advance to the nationals.
Competitors, including Thomas and Lynn, were challenged to create “infinity bridges” from a very limited assortment of prepackaged materials, distributed by conference officials, within a short, specified time frame. Once the bridges were completed, they were then tested and judged for their maximum weight sustainability.
“The boys represented CFISD and Smith Middle School very well and should be very proud of what they have accomplished,” said sponsor and teacher Josh Simmons. “Smith was the only CFISD middle school to compete at the national level. I see great leadership in Kyle and Mike and see a great future for their career choices.”
The Technology Student Association (TSA) is a national organization that promotes exploration of technology and leadership in engineering, architecture and science in grades 7-12.
