The Towne Lake community will be host to many of the finest athletes from Houston and across Texas during the Houston Triathlon on Sunday, Sept. 25.
Last year more than 1,000 people participated in this bike/swim/run race and organizers are preparing for an even larger turnout this time.
Participants will have the choice or running one of two courses when they register. The Sprint Distance Triathlon consists of a 500 meter swim, 12.5 mile bike ride, and three mile run. The Olympic Distance Triathlon features a 1,500 meter swim, 24.85 mile bike, and 6.2 mile run.
Check in begins at 5:45 am and race start times are between 7:30 and 8:20 am.
Those who do not wish to run but still want to watch and be part of the festivities are welcomed.
This triathlon will be great for the Towne Lake area, as it gives us a chance to show off our hospitality and will allow the 1,000+ participants and their families and supporters an opportunity to stay in local hotels and dine in our restaurants throughout the weekend.
If you’d like to be more active in greeting the athletes you can sign up to be a race day volunteer on the event website.
Prizes will be given out for the top overall finishers and for individual male and female age categories.
Much of the money raised from the Houston Triathlon will be donated to local Boy Scout and Girl Scout organizations, as well as Team Drinking Water, an organization dedicated to helping the nearly one billion people without access to clean drinking water.
Check-in and the transition area is across from the Lakeview Loft Apartments next to the lake. Visitors should park at the Berry Center or at Lone Star College-CyFair.
The deadline for registration is Thursday, Sept. 22.
