Don’t Forget Texas’ Back-To-School Sales Tax Holiday

Don’t forget! The State of Texas “2010 Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday” will run this year from August 19 through August 21, 2010.

Going back to school is always an exciting time for students and parents, and the sales tax exemption helps ease the stress on the back-to-school budget. This is always a big shopping weekend in Texas, so make your plans early, watch for the sales—and enjoy the additional savings of not paying sales tax!

As has been true for the past several years, parents buying clothing, shoes, and backpacks under $100 per item will usually qualify for the exemption, but this year the state legislature also added many school supplies as new tax-exempt items too! So, not only can you buy some great back-to-school clothes, you can also help stretch your back-to-school bucks on required items such as pens and paper. To check the full list of exempt and non-exempt items before you hit the stores, visit the Texas State Comptroller’s website
