Press Release: RECENT SURVEY FINDS THRIVING FISHERY IN TOWNE LAKE

Master-planned community in Cypress offers residents enjoyable lakeside living
CYPRESS, TEXAS (April 2, 2012) – Towne Lake management recently conducted a biological survey that found a healthy, thriving fish population in the community’s namesake lake. Towne Lake worked with aquatic specialists Total Lake Management (TLM) to identify the resident species and evaluate the quality of the fishery.
Towne Lake was developed to be a community connected by water and the lake is purposely designed for fishing. As such, the lake plays a vital role in residents’ everyday lives. Towne Lake’s developers know it is important in the early stages of the community to make sure that the proper steps are being taken now to ensure a healthy lake for the future. After construction of each lake segment, various fish environmental elements are installed beneath the surface of the water – an essential component in cultivating a quality fish population. Additionally, the average 10-foot depth of the lake controls the temperature of the water for the fish and helps sustain the level of oxygen required. During hot Texas summers and occasionally frigid winters, fish are able to dive deep and continue to thrive in their natural habitat.
“We conducted the biological survey as part of our proactive effort to develop an outstanding fishery in Towne Lake,” said Brian Stidham, project manager for Towne Lake. “Our goal is to create a lake with multiple uses – fishing, water sports, transportation and overall enjoyment.”
Survey findings identified a total of seven species of fish in the lake, including largemouth bass, white crappie, bluegill sunfish and redear sunfish. TLM evaluated a sample population in terms of length-to-weight ratio, and measurements show that the fish population in Towne Lake exhibits the appropriate ratio to promote proper growth of the fishery.
“We built this community to be a true home for our residents,” said Fred Caldwell, president and chief executive officer of Caldwell Companies. “We were thrilled that the survey results backed up what we had intended all along – that Towne Lake is the premier fishing spot in the area.”
The second half of Towne Lake’s 300-acre centerpiece lake is set to open later this spring; the fishery is doing so well there will be no need to stock this newly-opened section of the lake with additional fish. Currently, the average weight of bass sampled is 2 pounds, with the largest bass in the survey weighing 5 pounds. When the fishery is fully developed, residents should expect bass anywhere from 10-12 pounds. In its ongoing management of the healthy fish population, Towne Lake plans to conduct a survey of the fishery on an annual basis.
